Post1: Explaining the meaning of Sustainable Development
The meaning of sustainable development
Sustainable development is a response to increasing awareness that the path to growth, prosperity, and social well-being requires a more equitable distribution of wealth, efficient use of resources, and attention to the needs of future generations. Sustainable development is about ensuring that economic growth, social development, and environmental protection go hand in hand. The economy must serve social needs, economic growth must be equitable, efficient, and sustainable, and the environment must be protected. Natural resources must be used wisely.
Example of a sustainable development initiative in Saudi Arabia:
The green Riyadh project: The grand plan is to transform Riyadh into a greener cooler city for twice the population.
Pillars of Sustainable Development:
A. Social: The people's aspect in terms of equity, human rights and happiness
B. Economical: Long-term economic growth without negatively affecting the future generations
C. Reducing the impact on nature to preserve the natural resources for future generations
